Geneva, 12 December 2011. Burson-Marsteller, leading PR company in Switzerland, appoints a new Managing Director in its Geneva office (Switzerland). Chris Cartwright replaces Tony Burgener and will also be a member of the Executive Board. In addition, Chris leads the B-M EMEA Technology Practice. The Geneva office will serve as a hub for international companies seeking global communications support from Burson-Marsteller, with the backing of the whole network of 92 offices globally.

Chris Cartwright joins the Geneva office from Burson-Marsteller in London, where he was Chair of the UK Corporate, Issues and Technology Practice. The integrated group with expertise in Energy & Environment, Corporate Responsibility, Crisis Management, Internal Communications, Media Strategy, Executive Thought Leadership and Technology counsels clients such as Bacardi, De Beers, Shell, Alcatel-Lucent, Accenture, HSBC, Hewlett Packard, Sony Ericsson, SAP and Vestas. Under Cartwright’s leadership, the Practice was the largest and fastest growing in London.

“We are excited to announce Chris Cartwright’s appointment as Managing Director of the Geneva office and new member of our Management Board. It is our strategy to position the Geneva office as an international hub. Our aim is to be a trusted advisor of the international companies settled around the lake of Geneva. In addition to the strengthening of our Corporate Practice, Chris brings along vast experience in the Technology sector”, said Urs Rellstab, CEO of Burson-Marsteller Switzerland.

“I am delighted to take this new challenge on and to add my corporate, crisis and technology expertise to B-M Switzerland. As an international hub, we will have the capacity to serve our clients globally and provide them with the best of B-M in any country they need communications support in. I can count on a strong and dynamic team here that has all the expertise and knowledge to provide senior consultancy to our clients. We are ideally placed in Geneva to serve the international companies here with the strategic advice they need to meet their business goals”, said Chris Cartwright.

Prior to B-M, Cartwright was Managing Director of Harvard PR. Before this, he held board positions at top technology PR firms, Brands2Life and Bite Communications. He has 18 years experience in public relations, crisis communications and change management working with clients in the tourism sector (Alitalia, SWISS International Airlines), rail (Amey plc, Russian Railways), logistics (TNT, Deutsche Post, DHL), technology (Cisco, HP, Oracle), engineering (Eaton) and FMCG sectors (Kimberly Clark, Bosch).

Chris Cartwright replaces Tony Burgener, who shortly became Director of Swiss Solidarity. “We thank Tony Burgener for his full commitment over the last three years and wish him all the best in his new position as Managing Director of Swiss Solidarity”, said Urs Rellstab.
